NAD+

Also called Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide

A coenzyme present in every cell, involved in normal energy metabolism. Available as a shot or a dedicated infusion.

What it is

NAD+ is a coenzyme found in every living cell, where it carries electrons between reactions: the central currency of how cells release energy from food. Levels are reported to decline with age.

It is given either as an intramuscular shot or as a dedicated slow infusion. The infusion is deliberately slow: given quickly, NAD+ reliably produces chest tightness, flushing and nausea, and the rate is the difference between a comfortable visit and an unpleasant one.

What it is used for

  • A coenzyme the body uses in normal energy-yielding metabolism*
  • Participates in normal cellular repair processes*
  • Involved in the normal function of enzymes that regulate cell metabolism*

How we give it

As an intramuscular shot, on its own or added to a drip visit.

As a dedicated IV infusion, run slowly over a longer appointment than a standard drip.

Good to know

Why does the infusion take so long?

Because rate is everything with NAD+. Run fast it commonly causes chest tightness, flushing, cramping and nausea: not dangerous in itself, but genuinely unpleasant. Your nurse slows it or pauses it the moment you say you feel it, and that is the right response rather than something to push through.

What does it feel like?

Most people describe a wave of pressure in the chest or a flushed, slightly wired feeling that comes and goes with the rate. Tell your nurse as it happens; the drip is adjustable, and there is no benefit to enduring it quietly.
